Traditional Ashtanga Yoga Shala Phuket (TAYSP) offers the ideal immersion program for both experienced practitioners and beginners. The course is organised in a way where students discover a lot of new information and develop useful skills to cover different aspects of yoga practice to both deepen your practice or start your yoga journey. You can chose between one of our 4 weeks, 3 weeks, 2 weeks 10 days or 1 week packages based on your needs. The schedules of daily classes, healthy food, comfortable accommodation and friendly atmosphere create perfect conditions for the student to progress quickly and develop an enjoyable personal practice bringing health to body and mind.
During the course we study the main aspects and principles of Ashtanga Yoga and implement the knowledge into the practice.
We build the solid practice based on vinyasa system, applying bandhas, drishti and using Ujayi breath. We discover the foundation of each asana and its modifications, body alignment, we learn therapeutic effect of asanas and we do additional trainings for building the strength and flexibility to improve the practice. We take a journey to explore inner and outer sequence of Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series to make a daily asana practice a meditation experience.
The course also includes training in pranayama practice. Students are guided to practice a number of pranayama techniques consistently, they take their time to deepen the understanding of this ancient practice and strengthen the control of the breath.
During the course we learn kriya techniques – ancient purification exercises which help to purify the body and prepare ourselves for pranayama and asana practice. The students are provided with basic equipment for these cleansing practices.
Intensive yoga course is not complete without focusing on work with the mind. Even the asana, pranayama and kriya required a deep concentration students get additional experience and training in yoga nidra and meditation. It helps to change the habitual patterns of the mind which is essential for self development and inner growth.
Students are also introduced to yoga philosophy and main ancient yoga texts as it gives a strong theoretical foundation of the practice.
Sunday is a day off, no classes and no meals.
The schedule might be changed depending on needs and practice progress of the students.
The confirmation of booking is done after deposit is recieved.
Deposit instructions and details will be sent to you be email, Payment methods (Bank Transfer / PayPal /Western Union). The rest of the payment can be made on check in day.
Accommodation and vegan meals are included into the course fee.
Refund policy: All fees are non refundable. A student can transfer from one course to another at least one month before the start of that course to attend another. After this time fees are forfeited.

My life has been in a major transition and I wasn’t coping well. I decided to go to a yoga retreat with the hopes it would center me, help me move forward and find some peace. In fact the experience went way beyond my expectation (which is saying a lot since I was thinking I was expecting too much and I knew nothing about Ashtanga yoga).
Rich and Sofya are two wonderful human beings. I feel they are very caring and generous with their time and attention. They want the best from and for their students, including learning more than you can imagine. I took the intensive program for 3 weeks, which included challenging the body, mind and spirit. It was a life changing experience. I feel I came out stronger in every possible way. My daily intention was to find peace and I feel my times of peace grew each day. There was so much to learn with little time to listen to the negative chatter in my mind.
I had personal challenges that slowed my progression, but what I gained even with those challenges, wow! My thanks go to everyone in the Shala with special thanks to Rich and Sofya. Since leaving the retreat I’ve been practicing Ashtanga asana on my own and I can hear both of them in my mind (e.g., “open up your chest”, “back straight” “chin down”, “foot flexed”), imagine feeling the adjustments, or imagine seeing their gestures to get me to do the postures correctly. Always brings a smile as I make the appropriate corrections. I am also practicing the other forms of Ashtanga; including, pranayama (my favorite), meditation, and some Kriya. What wonderful gifts they’ve given. They are wonderful teachers. I feel they taught me well! May I continue practicing these gifts through my lifetime. read less

I I have a curvature on my spine that affects my posture and pain in my neck at times, Rich did workshops for back strengthening and spinal issues, and it really helped me to have a stronger back and breathe properly, i will definitely keep the sequence that i ve learned while Sofia has helped me understand and improved my pranayama and meditation practice (getting there). All in all it was a tough 21 days but a great experience! Ill definitely go back again. read less
